What is a Skateboard?

A skateboard is a four wheeled board made from plastic or wooden with rollers at the bottom. Skateboards are ridden by youngsters to enjoy various skateboarding tricks and stunts. Deck, trucks, wheels and bearings are the main parts of a skateboard. Deck is the board on which you stand upon and is made of wood incorporated with the material like bamboo, resin, etc. Skateboards come in various shapes, sizes, and appearance. The size and shape of the skateboard decks vary according to the type of skating preferred. A skateboard can be long or short. A concave shaped skateboard is for scholar skateboarding tricks. Some of the main skateboarding tricks are ollie, kickflips, nollie, etc.

Skateboard trucks are attached underneath the deck with nuts and bolts and are made of aluminum alloy or titanium. Skateboard trucks are also available in various colors. The hardness of the skateboard wheels also vary according to the type of skating preferred. Small and hard wheels are adored by road skaters for performing tricks like kickflips and ollies and hard wheels are required to perform vert skating. The bearings are used to mount the wheels on the axle (part of skateboard truck).

Skateboarding is a sport which requires lot of body protection. The use of helmets, protective clothing elbow pads, wrist guards, knee pads, etc help you to safe from the unexpected falls. In addition to the use of these protective devices, learning the techniques of falling is also very prominent to reduce the chances of injury. To lower your body and roll is the best way to avoid serious injury while falling. Children should avoid skating on streets and performing the tricks as seen in the skateboarding videos.
